Take Back Our “R”

“Realtor.com is more than a website. It’s our brand, our online persona. Right now, we have no control of our brand, and we’re being grossly misrepresented.”

Home

Realtor.com is the online brand of every Realtor in the United States.  With 80%+ people beginning their searches online, it is oftentimes the first impression Realtors have to make on homebuyers.  However, our online brand is not controlled by the National Association of Realtors.  Since November 1996, that presence has been controlled by third parties and treated as a profit center.  Currently, Realtor.com is controlled by Move, Inc. who has a lifetime right to be the web presence for REALTORS. It is not competitive and more importantly is currently acting against the interests of REALTORS.

In the latest yearly financials for Move, Inc, they have spent much of the $188mm in Sales & General/Administrative expenses listed in their statement of Operations (page 20) in marketing “enhanced listings” that Realtors pay for.

Move Inc’s (MOVE) current stock price is at record lows.  This provides a unique opportunity for the National Association of Realtors to buy a controlling share of the company and to give the enhanced listings to its members.  A controlling share is just under 77mm, for a price tag of just over $91mm.
